Children's Dentistry
A child's first visit to the dentist is very important for several reasons. In many instances, its their first experience with dentistry and we want to make it a pleasant one! We like to see your child first for a routine cleaning and checkup. Of course, if they have something that is hurting them, obviously we will take care of that first. If there are no emergency problems, we will examine your childês mouth (lips, cheeks, tongue, floor of the mouth, tonsil area, hard and soft palate), check the growth and development of the head, and check the teeth and gums. The child will receive a thorough cleaning and topical fluoride treatment, and we will take any x-rays that may be necessary. We will also evaluate any tongue, lip, cheek or thumb habits that may influence the development and growth of their teeth. After this has all been completed, we will discuss with you our findings and recommendations. Because this first visit is easy and enjoyable, it helps to overcome many of the fears that the child may have acquired, and they become acquainted with us in an enjoyable manner.
We ask that you never tell your child that we will hurt them. Instead tell them that we are going to count their teeth and take some pictures. We refer to anesthetic as sleepy water, and most kids donêt even realize they were just given an injection, unless they have heard it from someone else. Often parents don't realize that baby teeth are important since they will be lost anyway. But primary teeth need the same care as permanent teeth for chewing, good speech, appearance, and to save space for the permanent teeth to come through.
Any parent realizes the importance of maintaining good, healthy teeth for their children. Here at the Fairfield Dental Clinic, we are committed to helping you achieve that goal. We look forward to seeing your child sometime soon!
