Teeth Whitening
Everyone loves a bright smile, and there are a variety of products and procedures that are on the market today to help you improve the looks of yours. Many people are satisfied with the sparkle they get from brushing twice daily, flossing, and regular cleanings at your dentist. If you decide you would like to go above and beyond this to make your smile brighter, give our office a call to set up a time to discuss your options
We will start by letting you speak with your dentist. He can tell you whether or not whitening procedures would be effective for you. Whitening agents do not correct all types of soft discoloration. As an example, yellowed teeth will probably bleach well, whereas teeth with a brownish cast to them will bleach, but not as well, and teeth with a grayish hue to them may not bleach at all. Also, if you have had bonding done or tooth colored fillings placed in your front teeth, the whitening agent will not affect the color of these materials, and they will stand out in your nice, new white smile. If you fall into this category, you may want to check into other options, such as porcelain veneers or cosmetic bonding.
There are many whitening systems out there. It is our recommendation that you check with your dental professional before undertaking any whitening regimen, as there can be side effects, such as sensitivity. Whitening agents are best used under the care of a supervision of an oral care professional.
Studies have shown that the whitening process can markedly whiten your teeth. Your results, of course, will vary, as your starting point may be different and everyoneês teeth respond a little differently. The long term results depend primarily on each individual patient. Obviously, if you drink lots of coffee, tea, or smoke, the whitening effect will not last as long for you as it will for those who do not. Be sure to discuss this with your dental professional.
